When the fall comes, everyone is looking forward for the holidays. Autumn is the season of joy, when families come together and they have long, festive and copious meals. The housewives bend over backwards to cook the most innovative recipes and to prepare the most delicious meals ever for their families and their guests. However, there is a simple and easy to make a dish that has been around since 1955: green bean casserole.

Many people feel that the holidays would not be the same without the green bean casserole, especially on Thanksgiving Day. Green bean casserole is a recipe that was invented in 1955, by the Campbell Soup Company. It mainly consists of green beans, cream of mushroom soup and french fried onions. Since then, new green bean casserole ingredients have been added to the recipe, depending on the cook, but the basic ingredients are still the same. If you like to experiment, you could add black pepper, soy sauce, cheese, tomatoes, or any other ingredient that you like, and make your own green bean casserole recipe. Whether you prefer the classic green bean casserole recipe or the modern ones, this dish should not be missing from your holiday menu, because even though it takes little time to prepare it, it is very tasty and your whole family will love it.

I do not think that more than 30 million households serve green bean casserole on Thanksgiving for nothing. However, if you are a fan of this dish, you do not have to wait until Thanksgiving to serve green bean casserole, because you can easily cook it whenever you feel like, as it is very easy to put together. So whenever you run out of recipe ideas, you can opt for the green bean casserole and every member of your family will love it. Green bean casserole is also a great way for children to eat green vegetables, which are very healthy. So when you are planning the holiday menu, do not forget about the green bean casserole, because holidays would not be the same without it.

Although cooking your very first green bean casserole can seem like a challenge and maybe even a little intimidating, the truth is that it is quite easy and you shouldn’t have any problems with it if you have a good recipe to follow. One of the first things you will need to get is a condensed can of cream of mushroom soup as well s green beans, peppers, milk, and French fried onions. Once you have all of these ingredients together in your kitchen you will be able to get started with putting everything together. It is important to make sure that you have enough of everything you need, because the last thing you want is to have to go run to the store at the last minute to get more of something that is essential to the recipe.

The first thing you will have to do when you are making green bean casserole is to mix the soup, pepper, and milk together in a casserole dish which measures around 1 ½ quarts. You will then want to stir in all of the beans (about four cups) and 2/3 cup of the fried onions. You will need to put this mixture into the oven for around 25 minutes to let it bake. Make sure that you have the oven at 350 degrees when you put it in. You will also need to top off the baked mixture with 2/3 cups of fried onions and put it back in for about five more minutes so it can finish all the way.

Campbell?s green bean casserole is an American classic from the 50s. That?s when a new media, television, bombarded women with time-saving ideas like buying a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of green beans and a can of French fried onions. Once combined with a cup of milk and ground pepper, it must have seemed like haute cuisine.

Somehow, my mother ignored Campbell?s mind meld, but we ate plenty of other 50s classics, like Swanson TV dinners, creamed chipped beef (from a tiny glass jar) on toast and, most beloved (not!) of all, fish sticks.

The mind meld worked on some of my relatives, and I experienced this delicacy when visiting for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

One relative, my aunt Hortensia, taught me to make a cream of mushroom soup dish I like a whole lot better. In a bowl, combine one can of cream of mushroom soup, a quarter cup or more (depending on your taste buds) of mild to slightly spicy diced green chili and one cup of grated Monterey jack cheese.

Toast 16 corn tortillas in a skillet. Layer some of the soup mixture in a casserole dish, and put a layer of toasted corn tortillas on top. Add another layer of the soup mixture, followed by another layer of corn tortillas. Continue until you?ve used up the soup and corn tortillas, but make sure you finish with a layer of the soup mixture. Top with extra cheese. Sometimes, I add extra raw, sliced mushrooms, extra grated cheese and Jalapeno. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour. Prepare for bliss.

Around the holidays, a classic and a favorite dish of many people is green bean casserole. This dish is simple and yet hearty and it makes a great accent dish to almost anything else that could be rolled out onto the table. Many people tend to follow their grandparents and great-grandparents recipes for this wonderful dish, but many more have decided to go with a variation on the classic.

French’s (the company who also makes mustard) has released a recipe that rivals even the best of grandma’s ability in the kitchen. They make subtle changes to their version and allow you the ability to smudge here and there for whatever you want to add a little more of. There is really no set way to make green bean casserole, but using the guidelines that French’s has published, you can be sure that it will be a party favorite among everyone who attends.

To complete the recipe for six servings you will need about 11 ounces of cream of mushroom soup, the best is Campbell’s as it offers the best consistency, 3/4 cup of milk, and 1/8 teaspoon of black pepper. Mix all of these ingredients together thoroughly and then stir in 18 oz. of green beans, coating them very well. Finally, the recipe calls for 2/3 cup of French’s fried onions to be mixed in and baked at 350 degrees (or until hot clear through). However, to add a bit more crunch and flavor you can use a full cup at this point and then another full cup (instead of another 2/3 cup) when you pull it out and top it with the fried onions. In any event, after you top it off remember to bake it for another five minutes or so to get that lustrous golden color to the onions.

Ever since I could remember, my mother had always made green bean casserole for dinner whenever we had chicken or turkey. This pairing of the great green bean flavor with gravy and French style onions on top always sat well with lemon chicken or Thanksgiving turkey. My mother always said that it was one of the easiest dishes to prepare, and believe me, it’s not! At least if you want it to come out nicely, you really have to take a lot of preparation and make sure that you do everything right.

You need a casserole dish that is appropriate for your green bean casserole. Once you have that ready you can cut some onions into thin rings while your green beans are boiling. After the onions are cut up, you soak them in milk or soy milk for about an hour to have them get extra juicy. Prepare a pan with oil to fry your onions once you coat them with flour. Fry your onions until they are crispy and golden and set them on some paper towels to drain. Get your gravy and make it while you get the green beans in the casserole dish. Once the gravy is complete pour it onto the green beans and coat the top of the casserole with your onions. You are not done yet! You still need to bake the casserole for about 15-20 minutes to get a great flavor infusion!

I managed to find a flight home from New York City to visit my family for Thanksgiving. It’s the one time of the year that we can all get together and enjoy each other’s company and have some good food to boot. My parents met me at the airport sometime in the late evening and brought me back home immediately. I wish I could have gotten in sooner than the day before Thanksgiving, but sometimes it’s difficult to find flights and hotels that meet your needs.

When I shoved open the front door, all of my aunts, uncles, and cousins were plopped down on the couch waiting for me to arrive. They all jumped up and gave me a big hug to welcome me home. After the quick first celebration, we headed to bed to await the next morning. I was awoken by the smell of food from downstairs and the sizzling of pans. In my half-slumber I inched my way down the stairs towards the kitchen to see mom’s turkey and her famous green bean casserole. Whether you want to admit it or not, the green bean casserole is the best part of any Thanksgiving meal.

Green bean casserole is one of the most popular “holiday” dishes in the United States. It’s also a fantastic comfort food, and easily the most delicious food for thanksgiving. For some people, green bean casserole is too high in calories, or contains animal products, so they cant completely enjoy what the recipe has to offer.

If you want to explore alternative green bean casserole dishes, branch out a bit from the “classic campbell’s” dish, and create something completely your own. Some ideas to consider are using fresh mushrooms, making your own mushroom gravy, soy milk instead of high fat cow’s milk, and freshly chopped green beans. You can even go out of your way and create a “summer” version of this dish, by slightly steaming the green beans, and topping with delicate fresh mushrooms and an exotic dipping sauce. That deviates away from the hot oven cooked casserole, but there really are no limitations on what you can do with green beans and mushrooms!

If you want a healthy alternative, it is highly recommended that you use fresh ingredients, and never use anything canned or processed. Soy milk makes a healthy protein packed alternative to milk, and Portobello mushrooms are a heartier choice as compared to button mushrooms. Fresh casseroles always taste better, and your guests will notice the difference! It’s also advised to stay away from French’s fried onions in the cans if you are watching your waistline. Instead, caramelize your own onions and top your casserole immediately after baking or preparing. To take it a step further, consider using organic ingredients to increase the health benefits and healthfulness of this classic dish everyone loves! That way, if you consume too much of it you don’t have to feel guilty!
